چکیده

A novel ab initio numerical approach is developed and applied that solves the time-dependent Schrödinger equation describing two-electron diatomic molecules (e.g. molecular hydrogen) exposed to an intense ultrashort laser pulse. The method is based on the fixed-nuclei and the non-relativistic dipole approximations and aims to accurately describe both correlated electrons in full dimensionality. The method is applicable for a wide range of the laser pulse parameters and is able to describe both few-photon and many-photon single ionization processes, also in a non-perturbative regime. A key advantage of the method is its ability to treat the strong-field response of the molecules with arbitrary orientation of the molecular axis with respect to the linear-polarized laser field. Thus, this work reports on the first successful orientation-dependent analysis of the multiphoton ionization of H2 performed by means of a full-dimensional numerical treatment. Besides the investigation of few-photon regime, an extensive numerical study of the ionization by ultrashort frequency-doubled Ti:sapphire laser pulses (400 nm) is presented. Performing a series of calculations for different internuclear separations, the total ionization yields of H2 and D2 in their ground vibrational states are obtained for both parallel and perpendicular orientations. A series of calculations for 800 nm laser pulses are used to test a popular simple interference model. Besides the discussion of the ab initio numerical method, this work considers different aspects related to the application of the strong-field approximation (SFA) for investigation of a strong-field response of an atomic and molecular system. Thus, a deep analysis of the gauge problem of SFA is performed and the quasistatic limit of the velocity-gauge SFA ionization rates is derived. The applications of the lengthgauge SFA are examined and a recently proposed generalized Keldysh theory is criticized.

Two-active electron approach to multi-electron systems in intense ultrashort laser pulses: Application to Liâ•fi

The interaction of Li– with an ultrashort intense laser pulse is investigated by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation (TDSE) in the dipole approximation using a two-active electron approach. We describe the numerical solution of the TDSE and give a more detailed presentation of a technique for obtaining angular distributions for double ionization by intense ultrashort laser pulses. W...

Angular distributions for double ionization of Li- by an ultrashort, intense laser pulse.

We predict photoelectron angular distributions for double ionization of Li- by both weak and intense ultrashort, linearly polarized laser pulses by direct numerical integration of the three-dimensional, time-dependent Schrödinger equation. Li- is treated as a two-active electron system. Near threshold, for low intensity we recover general features of angular distributions for one-photon double ...

Post-filament self-trapping of ultrashort laser pulses.

Laser filamentation is understood to be self-channeling of intense ultrashort laser pulses achieved when the self-focusing because of the Kerr nonlinearity is balanced by ionization-induced defocusing. Here, we show that, right behind the ionized region of a laser filament, ultrashort laser pulses can couple into a much longer light channel, where a stable self-guiding spatial mode is sustained...

Modeling the Early Ionization of Dielectrics by Ultrashort Laser Pulses

In this paper, we present a model for propagation of intense and ultrashort laser pulses ionizing dielectrics. We consider early ionization so that this process is sufficiently weak to avoid requiring a complete description of the ionization process (e.g. the use of kinetic equations which are very expensive from a computational point of view). As the intensity of the field is small, one photon...

Atomic and Molecular Systems in Intense Ultrashort Laser Pulses

The full quantum mechanical treatment of atomic and molecular systems exposed to intense laser pulses is a so far unsolved challenge, even for systems as small as molecular hydrogen. Therefore, a number of simplified qualitative and quantitative models have been introduced in order to provide at least some interpretational tools for experimental data. The assessment of these models describing t...
